- Line-voltage (120V) -- required for security floods, wall-mounted fixtures, garage lights, and any fixture drawing more than a couple hundred watts total on the circuit. Line-voltage wiring outdoors must be in approved conduit or use rated direct-burial cable, and it requires a permit for new circuits in Alberta.

GFCI requirements for outdoor circuits
Every outdoor receptacle and most outdoor lighting circuits in Edmonton need GFCI protection -- that's Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter. Alberta follows the Canadian Electrical Code, which requires GFCI on all outdoor outlets and on circuits supplying outdoor equipment.
